Media Response – DASH Highway Construction Activities

Media Response to FMT

We refer to the news coverage in Free Malaysia Today dated 8 May 2017 entitled “Gegar sampai almari bergoyang, penduduk bimbang pembinaan DASH” and would like to clarify as follows:-

Firstly, we would like to highlight that engagement sessions with the residents about the project had started in 2012. A town hall meeting was organized on 15 February 2012 at MBSA and a public display was held from 8 to 22 February 2012 at the same venue. Subsequently we have held meetings with the Resident Association committee on 24 March 2017 and the latest being on 5 May 2017.

On the residents’ concern about the planned elevated U-turn, we would like to explain that the three piers for the elevated platform would not be built within the parameters of their gated neighborhood but on the Government’s land.

Construction works have not begun at Villa Suria area but dilapidation survey is being conducted for houses potentially facing higher impact from the construction. We have also received approvals from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the Malaysia Highway Authority (MHA) to conduct soil tests within the project’s right-of-way (on the Government’s land).

As a construction requirement and safety measure, we will also build a 12-feet high hoarding with no entry or exit points into the residential area during the construction period. It will be torn down upon completion of the construction and a new retaining wall that also serves as a noise barrier shall be constructed to replace the structure that was removed. In addition, we are also considering the suggestion of increasing security measures at the construction area.

On the upgrading of Puncak Perdana junction, we would also like to inform that the project is being done to smoothen traffic flow at Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari. The project was requested by the Public Works Department (PWD) and is also part of the integration of DASH and Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari. Once completed, the upgraded junction will be handed over to the Public Works Department. For information, the U-turn at the Puncak Perdana junction was the best fit design requested and approved by the PWD. It is based on the requirements and specifications set by the PWD which have been fulfilled by the relevant Road Safety Audit and approved for construction.

We would like to assure residents of Villa Suria that all construction activities including the construction of the piers shall comply with construction requirements specifications set by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Malaysia Highway Authority (MHA), Public Works Department (JKR), Safety and Health Department (JKKP) and the Department of Environment (DOE). Continuous monitoring shall be conducted in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and conditions set by the Department of Environment.
