Media Response to Sin Chew Daily

We refer to the news report in Sin Chew Daily entitled “Residents hold demonstration to relocate: SUKE Ramp Entrance Too Close to Residential Units” which was published in your Metro Edition A today and would like to clarify the issues raised by the residents of Taman Bukit Segar Jaya, Cheras.

We understand the residents’ apprehension about the ramp distance and have established active engagements with the affected residents since 2012 which include conducting public opinion survey as well as public briefing involving local council.

We note the residents’ appeal to relocate the ramp further from their residential units and would like to inform that we are looking at the safest and best fit design option for the said development.  Hence, we have submitted a plan for a U-Turn overpass to be built and are waiting for approval from the Authority. With the new proposal of an overpass U-Turn, the distance of the ramp from the nearest houses will be 35m.  Once approval is obtained, we will share the plan with the residents.

We would also like to clarify that the ramp will actually be located 15.7m away from the parapet to the boundary of the land.  This is in compliance with the 13m setback guideline required by the Authority.

Safety is our top priority and we would like to assure the residents that in building the ramp, we will conform to the standard and guidelines of the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM). The concrete barrier that we are building along the ramp will be of optimum safety dimension to ensure stability in case of accidents.

We will be taking necessary measures to ensure minimal inconvenience to the residents during the construction period. Our contractors have already carried out dilapidation survey to the affected houses and noise and vibration monitoring are also being conducted to ascertain the level of noise and vibrations are within the Department of Environment’s approved level.

We appreciate the residents’ feedback and will continue the engagement sessions to address their concerns.
